PM DOUGLAS CONGRATULATES KITTITIAN FOOTBALLER REGARDED AS “TALENTED, TENACIOUS AND MOST FEARED” IN THE U.S.

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 9TH 2004 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas has congratulated Kittitian-born Erasmus James for his achievements in the Big Ten College Football Conference now underway in the United States.

James, who plays Defensive End fort the Wisconsin Badgers, where he is a Senior, is one of 12 semi finalists for the Chuck Bednarik National Defensive Player of the Year Award and leads the Big Ten with seven quarterback sacks and leads the U.S. as the top scoring defense with 10.5 tackles for loss. James is a two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week this season and is also a semi finalist for the Lombardi Award.

“It is indeed a proud moment for me to extend heartfelt congratulations to you for the successes you have achieved this far on your journey to Stardom in the fields of Local and National Football,” said Prime Minister Douglas in a letter delivered to James by his father, Press Secretary Erasmus Williams, who travelled to Wisconsin this weekend to watch the game with Minnesota.

“Your skills and dexterity have been tailored and fashioned by your dedication and commitment to excellence. Your swift recuperation from both hip and ankle injuries to reposition yourself on the team to qualify as a semi-finalist for the Chuck Bednarik National Defensive Player of the Year Award and the semi-finalist for the Lombardi Award testify of an innate desire to serve with pride and distinction,” said Prime Minister.

Dr. Douglas told James that the entire Federation of St Kitts and Nevis applaud his efforts and are proud of his achievements to date, hoping that he will continue to aspire to even greater heights.

“The Government and people of this proud Federation extend heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to you as you strive for mastery in all your endeavours,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

Just six months after returning from a career-threatening hip injury, the Lombardi Award semifinalist is being called one of the best players in college football and regarded as a surefire first-round NFL draft pick.

James, who is 6-4 and weighs 263 pounds, is billed as a talented, tenacious and most feared defensive end in college football.
